Github Removes Youtube Video downloader

Microsoft owned Github has removed Youtube-dl one of the most popular free Youtube video downloader after receiving a legal notice from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Youtube-dl is a very popular tool for downloading video and audio not only from youtube it also allows users to download from different sources such as VEVO, Vimeo, Dailymotion, etc.

According to a letter sent to Github, RIAA argues that the purpose of the source code circumvent the technological protection measures used by authorized streaming services such as YouTube, and it enables to distribute copyright music videos and sound recordings owned by our member companies without authorization.

Around 18 Youtube video downloader source code repositories have been removed from Github that has around 72,000 stars on GitHub.

If we see Youtube’s terms and condition downloading copyrighted content from youtube is illegal however there are also legal ways to use youtube-dl but the users used it to download copyrighted video and music.

However, youtube-dl will still work for some people who have software in their device but there are chances that they may get offline.

However, there is also an option to download videos from youtube, you can use youtube go app to download youtube video or you can purchase Youtube premium for $12/month and get extra benefit also such as background playing, youtube original, etc.

We all know that using and downloading copyrighted content without the owner’s permission is illegal whether it is for youtube or any other platform piracy is illegal.
